You should zero in on a tablet with a small size for greater portability

You should zero in on a tablet with a small size for greater portability and multi-tasking computing PA3591U-1BRS power so you can stay connected to multiple applications at once.

- Entertain and house my favorite movies, games and music. Look for a tablet that supports HD video, greater computing power and a substantial internal storage and/or USB-supported external storage. This will ensure your entertainment looks great and you never have to worry about running out of storage for your favorite movies, music or PA3591U-1BAS games.

- Help manage my 9-to-5 or 9-to-whenever workload like reading and reviewing documents, spreadsheets and presentations and email. You will want a  HSTNN-181C tablet with the computing power, user interface and productivity apps that facilitate the completion of your work on the go.

Additionally, verify the tablet’s Laptop battery life is sufficient to ensure you can power through your to do-list without worrying about running out of power before you run out of action items.

As students across the country are on their way back to school, many of them will carry cellphones, iPads, iPods, laptops and other electronic HSTNN-IB0N HSTNN-IB0X HSTNN-IB1E devices everywhere from their dorms to their cars and their classrooms. The Better Business Bureau reminds students and their parents to talk about ways to keep electronics and personal information out of the wrong hands.

The BBB offers the following advice to students and parents on how to keep personal property and sensitive information safe at school:

Use password protections. Even if a thief steals your electronic G62 battery device, having password protections could limit their access to your personal information. Avoid sharing passwords with friends or carrying them around on paper.

Keep it off the floor. No matter where you are in public - a large study hall in school, a  CQ42 battery conference, a coffee shop, or a registration desk - avoid putting your electronics on the floor. If you must put it down, place it between your feet or at least up against your leg, so that you’re aware of it.

The update isn’t going to bring any earth-shattering new bits, as it’s not a major Android revision or anything like that. It’s just a minor software update that’s meant to fix a couple of specific issues, while also improving the PA3589U-1BRS phone’s overall stability and responsiveness, and making as few slowdowns appear as possible. For that reason alone you probably should not postpone performing this update as soon as possible.

The update also brings improvements to voice calling to eliminate “inadvertent voice calls PA3588U-1BRS defaulting to mute”, and comes with added Bluetooth support for mono headsets in the Sprint Visual Voicemail app.

The update will come over-the-air and will be VGP-BPS3A released in stages. If you haven’t yet been notified that it’s available, you can manually check by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Update Motorola Software. If it’s still not available, you’ll have to be patient.

If it is, you can install it without needing a computer. Your phone’s CQ62  battery should be at least half full, and the whole procedure should take anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes.

HP’s decision to leave the PC market reflects both a maturing market and the inability of PC makers to earn decent margins on boring me-too PA3587U-1BRS products. Apple owns the high-end, high-margin PC business, while taking share from the Wintel notebook market with the iPad.

With the advent of the Mac Thunderbolt-everywhere strategy Apple is now differentiating the Mac and the iPad based on I/O. The iPad is the new PA3537U-1BRS MacBook.

USB 3.0 peripherals are proliferating at premiums that range from almost nothing to 100% over USB 2  WD549AA Battery products. USB 3.0’s success is assured due to price and bandwidth.

Thunderbolt meets a different need: it extends a system’s PCIe bus outside the box. What does this mean?

The Mac Pro tower PCGA-BP2E design - and Wintel towers as well - have been the only systems that offer user-accessible bus access, until Thunderbolt. Now a skinny little notebook or a mini form factor box can offer what only towers had before.

Which means that I/O oriented apps - those with large storage capacities or specialized I/O - don’t need to be run on bulky towers. Any Thunderbolt PA3537U-1BAS notebook can do the job.

Which leaves computationally intensive jobs to tower configurations that can support the memory, CPU cores, GPUs and cooling needed for simulation, transcoding and rendering. Call it consumer High Performance PCGA-BP2EA Computing.

Apple’s industrial designers know the possibilities. I trust they’re designing great products that will exploit Thunderbolt to the PA3536U-1BRS max.

AkkuSer’s Dry Technology takes recycling and material recovery to a new level for portable batteries

The volume of waste batteries generated by modern society is growing all the time, with so many of the cameras, mobile phones, laptops and hand tools we use being dependent on PA3595U-1BAS batteries. When they run out or can no longer be recharged, they quickly become a problem.

Why? Because the mercury, cadmium and lead they contain are hazardous to the environment. But these materials also represent a valuable recycling resource, as do the other metals in PA3595U-1BRS battery-related waste streams.

European Union (EU) member countries generate tens of thousands of tons of waste PA3609U-1BRS batteries and accumulators every year. AkkuSer’s Dry Technology and its network of partners may represent an effective way of dealing with this challenge and turning it into a truly suitable recycling opportunity.

Finnish company AkkuSer claims to be the first company in the EU to have developed a technology for recycling hazardous VGP-BPL2 batteries and accumulators in an environmentally sustainable way.

While recycling technologies for dealing with this type of waste have existed for some time, they are generally inadequate, particularly in terms of energy use. Now that  DM4t battery recycling is required in the EU’s 27 States, and other countries have either introduced similar legislation or are on the way to doing so, something better is needed.

AkkuSer’s Dry Technology takes recycling and material recovery to a new level for portable batteries, nickel-metal hydride, lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, and lead accumulators, and alkaline MU06 battery.

The technology does not require water or chemicals, which results in zero liquid effluent and minimal quantities of solid waste. Metal content is identified and sorted very accurately and recovered for onward use, while plastic and board are separated out for recycling as VGP-BPS5A energy.

The operating costs of AkkuSer’s fully auto- mated process are typically 90% lower than those of older technologies. AkkuSer’s Dry Technology also delivers a recycling/reuse efficiency of more than 90%, while around half of the PA3612U-1BAS materials processed using conventional technology normally ends up in landfills.

At the base of the cantilevers is a bit of piezoelectric material: when it’s strained by vibrations, it produces an electrical potential that can be used to generate electrical current. The cantilever array is mounted on top of a postage-stamp-sized, thin-film PA3612U-1BRS battery that stores the energy it generates.

The current passes from the piezoelectric array through an electrical device that converts the current to a form compatible with the laptop battery.

AkkuSer already processes most of the rechargeable batteries and battery waste generated in Finland and Estonia today, and half of the waste in Norway and Sweden, and has the PA3614U-1BRP capacity to handle even larger volumes at its dedicated plant in Central Finland.

The cathode material extracted by AkkuSer when it recycles Li-ion and Li-polymer laptop batteries – the most valuable recyclable component contained in these batteries – is sent to OMG Kokkola Chemicals, for example, for use in the manufacture of cobalt chemicals for use in new Li-ion products worldwide.

Nickel recycled from nickel-metal HP 586006-321 battery goes to Boliden Harjavalta’s smelter and Norilsk Nickel’s nearby nickel plant and ends up as metallic nickel.

The success of this partnership model gives AkkuSer a valuable competitive edge, over and above its HP COMPAQ Presaio CQ32 Battery technology, and one that has major potential – not only in Europe, but also further afield.

Acer is arguing that the ultrabook will trump the tablet over time

August 25th, 2011
Comments Off

And if notebooks don’t regain the interest of consumers? Acer may not break even in 2012 either. The larger theme on the Acer conference call—which followed a second quarter marked by inventory writedowns, layoffs, management turnover and a big loss—was that the HP 396600-001 Battery company is betting on Windows 8, Intel and the ultrabook reference design.

Wang made it clear that the ultrabook was Acer’s horse of choice in the mobile computing race. One truly odd thing about Wang’s stance is that Acer keeps pumping out HP 446398-001  Battery tablets.

Nevertheless, Acer’s second quarter was a train wreck by any standards. The HP 446399-001 Battery company reported a net loss of T$6.78 billion on sales of T$102 billion. In U.S. dollar terms, Acer lost $233.4 million on sales of $3.5 billion. Thomson Reuters had Acer losing T$4.63 billion on revenue of T$119 billion.

Ultrabooks are supposed to be the next generation of notebook computers. These pups will be faster, thinner and bring most PA3640U-1BAS laptops into a sleek form factor at a reasonable price.

The rub here is that ultrabooks will in some cases compete with tablets. The consumer has only so much expendable income. Acer is arguing that the ultrabook will trump the tablet over time. Wang’s comments are more interesting when you consider that former CEO Gianfranco Lanci resigned because he thought Acer should be more aggressive with its PA3638U-1BAP tablet strategy.

This ultrabook is extremely thin and light, instant on, instant connected, with good Dolby sound, with good laptop battery life, and attractive selling price. So that is a new trend which, in 20 to 30 years of PC history, nobody predicted or can believe at this time we can create this kind of Ultrabook. The 7 inch and 10 inch tablet continues selling but is kind of flat.

In context, Wang appears that he was talking about Acer’s tablets. The overall trend is that PA3636U-1BRL tablets are growing at a much more rapid clip from a smaller base. For its part, Acer is planning to ship 2 million to 2.5 million tablets this year. Wang didn’t seem to mention Apple or Android tablets specifically.

In fact, I’d recommend looking at comparable laptops from HP Laptop Batteries , Samsung, Toshiba, Gateway, Asus, etc. before you buy a Mac. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

The money you save can be put towards some other back to school technology that you’ll need, like a wireless mouse (all touch pads are annoying), a good PA3636U-1BAL laptop case and bag .

A back-up solution like an external hard drive and a good set of external speakers so you can use your laptop for movies, games, music and other multimedia (I recommend getting the Logitech Lapdesk N550 which comes with speakers and    laptop batteries tray to prevent you from cooking your legs, and the Creative Gigaworks T20 series).

Some other items you might want to consider include a Livescribe Smartpen (www.livescribe.com, $100), which helps record your pen strokes and even sounds as you take notes, a backpack with a built-in solar panel to help recharge your VGP-BPS4A laptop and gadgets, a USB battery and memory   and a wireless laser printer. Laser printers are bulkier than inkjet varieties, but they will cost you less in ink.

ARM CPU given the thinness of the ku530aa tablet and the lack of any ultra-low voltage

August 25th, 2011

It’s been a while since Microsoft flashed a mysterious slate in front of a crowd, but it’s resurrecting that old trick at the TechEd conference in New 437403-541 Zealand this week.

Microsoft Enterprise Strategist Jeff Johnson took the stage in the “Windows device session” to talk about the company’s upcoming PA3641U-1BRS tablet strategy and showed off not one but two tablets.

The first — and the most intriguing — he proclaimed to be a “quad core Windows Slate that will be give(n) out at an hstnn-db29 upcoming Microsoft event.”

What event could he be talking about exactly? Well, syncing up with information we’ve heard from our own sources, we’d say it is very likely that he is referring to Microsoft’s BUILD Conference in early September, which will focus on Windows 8. Similarly, we’ve heard that the guys in Redmond have indeed been prepping a Windows 8 development ku531aa tablet for the event.

We haven’t heard exact details on the quad-core part, but we’d venture to guess that it’s an ARM CPU given the thinness of the ku530aa tablet and the lack of any ultra-low voltage quad-core x86 chips. (And let’s not forget that Kal El is planned to arrive around the same time.)

Johnson also flashed a second chunkier tablet with a removable PA3672U-1BRS battery, which looks to be Fujitsu’s Windows 7-powered Stylistic Q550 (see how those match up in pictures below). We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and will be on the ground at BUILD in early September to bring you all the details.

Logitech is huge in the peripheral and accessory market for computers and tablets among the things. The  VGP-BPS4 company unveiled a new speaker specifically designed for the iPad not long ago called the Tablet Speaker.

Logitech is back with another new accessory specifically for the iPad 2. The new PA3682U-1BRS accessory is called the Logitech Fold-Up Keyboard and it also has a case to protect your tablet and props the tablet up for easier viewing.

The coolest part about the new case is that the keyboard isn’t limited in size to the relatively little space available directly under the iPad 2. The keyboard is a full size offering that folds up to hide under the tablet. That allows the Fold-Up keyboard to be no larger than the iPad 2 when not needed and then be big enough for easy typing.

The keyboard connects to the iPad 2 via Bluetooth and runs on an internal battery. The 446506-001 keyboard automatically wakes when it is unfolded making it ready to use automatically. When you fold the keyboard, it turns off and charging is done via USB. Logitech says that the keyboard will fit onto the iPad 2 with the Smartcover in use

Powering Android 2.3 will be a 1.2GHz Rockchip 2918 Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and a 4000mAh lithium polymer 485041-001 battery. Internal memory isn’t anything special at 4GB but as ever there will be a microSD card slot allowing for a further 32GB of storage space.

The screen will join the ranks of other smaller tablets with a 7″ display but with a low 800×480 resolution when compared to something like the Galaxy Tab which offers a resolution of 600×1024. In terms of hstnn-db42 battery life the AirPad is expected to last for 6 hours of music or movie watching or for four hours of Wi-Fi internet access.

While it’s unlikely to live up to it’s maker’s boasts there’s still plenty to recommend this tablet for its low price, though it seems unlikely to present a threat to better spec’d devices.

From an investment and balance sheet perspective, they are as good as they ever have been,” he said in an interview. “Dell is largely seen as a PC company, though it largely isn’t. … They are being killed by being perceived as being on the wrong end of an emerging technology (tablets and smartphone).”

Dell has not made much headway in the fast growing and increasingly crowded tablet market. Its Streak 7 got a scathing review from Engadet, which said, “When you combine its low-resolution screen, poor laptop battery life and soon-to-be outdated OS, we simply can’t recommend it.” The device — not surprisingly — has not sold well.

The results outshined HP laptop batteries for the second quarter in a row. Things fell apart in the second quarter, though, as weakness in the consumer business was not able to offset the strength of Dell’s enterprise solution and services business. To make matters worse, third-quarter revenue will be little changed from the second quarter.

Michael Dell has mocked HP’s plans to divest its PC business, so it is unlikely he will do it himself. Dell needs to convince investors that its transformation to the post-PC world will be successful. That will be difficult to do as a public company.

Loss of physical keyboards is a step backward.

Beyond that, you get Samsung’s attractive orange-and-blue sunrise-like wallpaper scheme; Samsung Apps, Samsung’s nascent and for now, irrelevant app store; Samsung Music Hub, a music store and player powered by 7digital; and Pulse news Apple MB772 Battery reader.

Samsung’s more customised overlay, TouchWiz UX, will be available later this summer as an over-the-air update. It’s not available pre-installed at launch, Samsung says, because the Apple MB772LL_A Battery company didn’t have enough time to test it with Android 3.1.

When the overlay does arrive, Samsung says the current plan is for users to be able to opt to use elements of it, or they can go back to stock Android. That said, we won’t know the implementation for sure until it arrives.

TouchWiz UX will add a variety of interface customisations to improve Android 3.1’s usability. It will also add Samsung’s Media Hub movie and TV purchase and rental service, as well as Reader Hub (powered by Kobo Books and Zinio) and Social Hub (for accessing social networks under Apple MacBook13 A1278  Battery roof).

Samsung will have docking port dongles to add USB, SD Card, and HDMI. Unfortunately, all of these feel like the afterthoughts they are; it would be nice to get to a point where at least HDMI and USB connectivity can be integrated directly into the Apple MB771LL_A Battery tablet.

HP 404888-241 Battery competitors are also far heavier, at 1.5 to 1.65 pounds. Once the dongles come available, I’ll update the review with hands on.

Another thing I noticed in my casual testing: The 7000mAh battery took inordinately long to charge. After two hours plugged in, my test unit only came up to about 30 percent charged. The Apple A1280 Battery is rated for up to nine hours of use.
Stay tuned for our full labs performance test results, including IBM FRU 92P1169 Battery life and recharge times.

But for road warriors who need to type more than the occasional email, the loss of physical keyboards is a step backward.

Any number of wireless Bluetooth keyboards are available for tablets, but that means you have to keep track of multiple pieces of IBM 40Y7001 Battery hardware.

However, two new Android tablets allow you to physically connect a keyboard as a single unit, like a touch screen.

When you don’t need the typing Apple MacBook Pro 15 New Version Battery capability, you just detach the tablet and leave the keyboard behind.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 is IBM FRU 92P1171 Battery designed from the ground up as a combo device.

While you can just use the tablet as a top-notch Android 3.2 IBM 40Y7003 Battery device, with its Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and 10.1-inch screen, the Transformer comes into its own when you buy the separate mobile keyboard dock.

The Apple MacBook Pro 15 A1286 Battery tablet snaps into place on the keyboard dock, and suddenly you have a full-fledged netbook.

The keyboard has its own IBM ASM 92P1170 Battery to extend the life of your tablet to about 16 hours at full charge.

There are also two USB ports; Android-specific hotkeys to open the Web browser, for example, or return to the home screen; and even a trackpad to control a mouse cursor.

Yep, a tablet with a mouse.

And the dock is sturdy and easily adjustable, with responsive keys that are a bit too small for the biggest IBM FRU 92P1167 Battery fingers, but still far more effective than a touch screen keyboard.

When you’re done, the screen folds down and closes like any netbook, and you can slip the entire contraption into just about any briefcase, backpack or laptop batteries .

One advantage the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet definitely holds over the iPad 2 is its cameras. It has an 8-megapixel rear HP 513128-251 Battery that doubles as a 1080p HD video recorder, and a 2-megapixel front camera for video calls.

Both take significantly better quality photos and video than the iPad 2. The interface of the camera app is also superb, but it is a shame you can’t use the physical volume buttons to zoom in and out.

Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 lacks HDMI connectivity, so you can’t hook it up to any television or monitor.

Samsung claims the Galaxy Tab 10.1’s laptop battery is good for seven hours of video playback, which is shorter than the iPad 2’s 10-hour figure but still respectable.

In our testing, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 often lasted over two days with moderate use, a fair result for a   HP 513130-321 Battery tablet and a significantly better figure than pre-Honeycomb Android tablets.

Tab 10.1 achieves perhaps the greatest design compliment an Android tablet

August 25th, 2011
Comments Off

Also missing so far: any mention of a HP KU533AA Battery version, which was previously announced. The Tab 10.1 supports Adobe Flash, but I was surprised to find my test unit came without Flash preinstalled.

Nor did it have a shortcut on the desktop linking directly to Adobe’s Flash Player on the Android IBM ThinkPad X60s Battery Market, as other Honeycomb tablets have handled the Flash installation conundrum (since it’s not native to the Android OS).

And yet, other file support surprises abound. The Tab 10.1 actually comes with support for Windows Media audio and video files (including .WMA, .WMV, and .AVI); these files are not  Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Battery natively supported by Android 3.1, so it’s impressive that Samsung jumped in to the fill the void. It also can read Xvid, another format not noted on Android’s official list.

The Tab 10.1 comes pre-loaded with Quickoffice HD, for reading and editing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lenovo ThinkPad X61s Battery PowerPoint files as well as serving as a functional file browser. (Interesting observation: files I downloaded via Gmail appear only in the Download folder, even though the images and videos appear directly in the Gallery app, and the music shows in the Music app.)

As initially shipped, the Tab 10.1 comes with stock Android 3.1 on board, and very little to distinguish it. It’s the first Honeycomb tablet to ship with Google’s facile Android Movie Studio (the Google answer to Apple’s iMovie on iOS). And it does have a customised HSTNN-Q35C keyboard from Nuance, with trace typing capabilities.

This keyboard is the default keyboard, although you could switch to the native Honeycomb keyboard if you prefer. I found I liked the Samsung keyboard; it’s grey, with black HSTNN-I71C letters, large keys and mostly useful shortcut keys (for example, @, .com, and :-) in the email keyboard).

Apple’s attempt to erase the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 from the history books is a compelling reason to take a long hard look at this Compaq Presario 1400  Battery tablet - UPDATED 25 AUG 2011

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi is the first Android tablet to effectively challenge Apple’s iPad 2 at what Apple does best: design. Let’s face it, when it comes to tablets, Compaq Presario B2800  Battery design is the attribute that’s squarely at centre stage. And the Tab 10.1 has that in spades. In fact, its design, together with its Android 3.1 operating system, vaults the Tab 10.1 to the head of the Android pack.

The Tab 10.1 achieves perhaps the greatest design compliment an Android tablet can hope for; namely, it was often mistaken at first glance for being an iPad 2. Even by Apple iPad users. This is remarkably understandable when you see and hold the Tab 10.1 for the Compaq 116314-001 Battery first time. The Tab 10.1 has a slim profile, 8.6mm - a hair’s breadth slimmer than the iPad 2 (technically, 0.2mm slimmer for those keeping the scorecard).

From the side, the two tablets look very similar. The Tab 10.1 has a more rounded edge, though, to the iPad’s tapered edge. The tablet comes in two colours: shipping first is white, which couples a silver-painted plastic edge with a white plastic black (identical to the limited edition Google I/O Compaq TC1000 Battery version of the Tab, sans the Android graphic imprint); available on June 17, when the Tab 10.1 ships in volume, you can choose a Metallic Grey, with edges and back that more closely match.

I actually preferred the grey variety, even though that model would be less likely to be mistaken for Apple’s ultra-hip tablet. I liked the feel and texture of the dark backing, as opposed to the more chintzy feeling plastic white backing.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 edges the iPad 2 on weight, too: 570g, to the iPad’s 600g. And IBM ThinkPad X60 Battery stands slightly taller and narrower than iPad, dimensions you’d expect simply by virtue of its 10.1in display. It measures 260×175mm, compared with iPad 2’s 240×185mm.

All of this is meaningless, though, compared with the reality of actually handling the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Tab 10.1 feels lightweight and extremely well-balanced in-hand. I found ThinkPad R60 Battery conducive to hold in one hand or two, and found it lightweight enough that I hardly noticed it was in my bag.

I’d still like to see the weight on tablets of this size get closer still to the one pound mark, while adding even more built-in functionality (like additional ports), but this is a good start ThinkPad R60e Battery towards that goal. Especially considering the Tab 10.1 is Samsung’s first mass-market tablet of this size (I’m not counting the region-specific, heavier and thicker 10.1V).

The Tab 10.1’s overall design takes a minimalist design cue from Apple, as well. Beyond the docking port, you have a power button and volume rocker at top (horizontal) or along the right side (vertical). Also along the right top is the headphone jack; it’s awkwardly situated if you’re holding the laptop batteries horizontally and video chatting at the same time, since the jack is just off to the right above where the camera is.

But if you flip the orientation to put the jack at the bottom of the horizontal display, or hold the ThinkPad Z61p Battery tablet vertically, with the jack running along the right side, the jack’s location works fine).

The stereo speakers are situated a little more than an inch down from the top, along the left and right horizontal edges. This position proved a good one, since my hands didn’t get in the way of the speakers. The speakers sounded surprisingly good, among the better I’ve heard on Lenovo Thinkpad W500 Battery Android tablets, far better than iPad 2’s single rear-facing speaker. But that’s not saying much; audio still sounded too tinny on my test tracks.

The 1280×800 pixel resolution display looks bright and brilliant, two characteristics we’ve come to associate with Samsung displays on its phones and tablets. Like the 7in Galaxy Tab before it, the display also has over-saturated colours. On a colour chart test image, most of the colours, including reds and blues, were blown out. In our test images of sights and scenes, this tendency translated to images that popped, but had a bit too much red ThinkPad T60 Battery and blue thrown into the mix. In side-by-side comparison, the Apple iPad 2 generated better colour reproduction, especially when it came to the soft browns for skin tones.

However, the Tab 10.1 rendered images with terrific sharpness and detail. This is the first Android tablet to ship natively with Google’s Android 3.1 update. And images clearly benefit from the updated OS: Images were crisp, with no signs of the fuzzy rendering issue that plagued earlier the earlier Honeycomb  ThinkPad Z60m Battery versions.

If you spend large amounts of time emailing friends, you’ll need a comfortable keyboard. Thankfully, the Samsung’s board has a lot of space to work with, thanks to the  Compaq Presario 2500 Battery wide chassis.

Keys are well spaced, using the popular isolation style. This means that each key protrudes through its own individual hole in the frame, with the resulting gaps between them meaning you’re less likely to miss-hit keys. This is also one of the firmest boards in this FRU 92P1133 Battery group.

Like the Acer and Medion, a generous 640GB of storage gives you plenty of space to hold your files, software and media such as songs and ASM 92P1132 Battery photos.

VGA and HDMI ports can be used to connect external monitors and televisions, if the screen isn’t quite big FRU 92P1129 Battery enough to satisfy you, while an SD card reader is a quick and easy way of accessing your photos and other data from your mobile devices.

You also get built-in Bluetooth, which can be used to connect compatible headsets or transfer data with other  HP Pavilion ZT1000 Battery devices.

If you’ve been hunting for a desktop replacement machine to entertain you and your family at home, the Samsung RV720 is well worth considering. The excellent HP  F4486  Battery performance and crisp, colourful 17.3-inch screen are highlights, although the lack of dedicated graphics is a shame.

Sony often offers some of the more costly laptops: But in our Ratings is the 14-inch Vaio VPCEG11FX/L, for $660—and this Laptop  doesn’t hold back. It has a large hard drive, long HP 520 Battery life, and notable performance.

A 15.6-inch Gateway laptop, the NV59C70u, saw a significant price drop. And it’s also loaded with ASM 92P1128 Battery features, such as a large hard drive and an HDMI port for streaming high-def video to your TV.

Even Apple is getting into the act—sort of. The company has replaced its $1,000 white MacBook with a $1,000 MacBook Air, an 11.6-inch model running the latest FRU 42T5233 Battery version of Apple’s operating system, OS X Lion. It weighs just 2.5 pounds and was a top performer among laptops.

Our top rated this month is headed by the Toshiba Tecra R850, which has a wonderful combination of design, performance, laptop batteries life and price. It’s one of the best 15.6in units we’ve seen in a while.

Lenovo’s reliable Thinkpad T420 comes in after it with a 4-star review rating and it’s followed by solid offerings from Dell and HP NC4000 Battery .

We’ve included the ThinkPad edge in this round-up, too, as it’s a terrific little unit for what you pay and we think small business users will love FRU 42T4513 Battery .

For professionals who want lots of power, Lenovo’s ThinkPad W520 gets a look in at position eight. Users after a lighter FRU 92P1141 Battery model that still has great features must check out Toshiba’s Portege R830 instead.

About our ratings: A star rating is awarded to a product in quarter increments from one star to five stars. The higher the star rating, the better the notebook. Notebooks are evaluated on performance, features, build quality, ease of use, laptop battery life and value for money.

That’s a pretty low price models on our current all-purpose laptops

Microsoft is showing off new Windows hardware at a Tech-Ed developer conference in New Zealand, including a quad-core slate Samsung R468 Battery device and laptops with flexible metal screens.

Blogger Alan Burchill posted photos of the hardware at his Samsung R620 Battery blog, which I learned about via Mary Jo Foley.

The HP HSTNN-LB72 Battery hardware will probably be fully unveiled in September at the Build Windows event showcasing Windows 8, which is coming out in 2012.

But the quad-core tablet device will come out sooner, by the end of the year, running Windows 7, according to a Microsoft- produced video (below) from Tech-Ed that Mary Jo called out.

She also speculated that the quad-core HP DV7 Battery devices could be hardware that developers are given at the Build conference to test Windows 8 and start developing applications for the new operating system.

Qualcomm, Intel, Nvidia and AMD all announced quad-core mobile hardware earlier this year. Nvidia was to begin producing its HP Mini 110 Battery quad mobile processors in August and Qualcomm was going to begin shipping quad-core Snapdragon systems by the end of the year, according to Silicon.com.

Pricing of the Windows tablets wasn’t disclosed but the video provides clues to selling points that Microsoft will emphasize to compete with the iPad and other HP Mini 1000 Battery tablet devices.

One of the devices shown has a replaceable HP ProBook 4710s Battery that is described as being more sustainable than the fixed iPad battery, and all the Window devices have enterprise management tools.

Another has 1080p video and all-day laptop batteries life, and the laptops highlighted have solid-state hard drives for ultrafast startup.

If you didn’t already know that Lenovo created its IdeaPad line to appeal to consumers, the peacock-blue case option of the IdeaPad Z370 would certainly provide a strong clue, as would the system’s large (for a laptop) stereo speakers and appealing price tag. This 13.3-in. all-purpose Samsung R520 Battery portable is definitely not your father’s pricey, corporate-focused ThinkPad — and if you’re on a tight budget, that’s a good thing.

Configured with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 CPU (the midrange offering in Intel’s current mobile chip lineup), Intel integrated HD 3000 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 5400-rpm  Samsung R460 Battery , and the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, our evaluation unit cost $629 as of August 21, 2011.

That’s a pretty low price compared to the going rates for top-rated models on our current all-purpose laptops chart — but those models generally deliver much better performance, and many of them have 15-inch displays. Most of the 13.3-in. models we review fall into the ultraportable HP Pavilion dv3000 Battery category, but the Z370 is too thick (at 1.4 in.) and too heavy (at 4.7 lb.) to qualify as an ultraportable. It turned in a WorldBench 6 score of 113; the top-rated Core i7-based Dell XPS 15z earned a mark of 134.

Gaming scores were typical for a Samsung R428 Battery with integrated Intel graphics, topping out at 28.2 frames per second for Far Cry 2 at the lowest quality setting and 800 x 600 screen resolution.

That’s less than half the XPS 15z’s frame rate at the same settings — but the XPS 15z also costs more than twice as much and comes with discrete GeForce graphics, so the disparity in test results is no surprise. In short, don’t buy this Samsung R580 Battery for raw computing power or serious gaming.

In our battery drain tests, the Z370’s six-cell lithium-ion laptop battery ran for 5 hours, 13 minutes — a middle-of-the-pack figure for this notebook class.

The IdeaPad Z370 shines in multimedia performance, especially for travelers. The aforementioned built-in stereo speakers, located on top of the keyboard at both corners, deliver great sound for a notebook in this price range.

Crisp and relatively loud, they made listening to streaming audio, watching YouTube music videos or playing a film on the built-in DVD-recordable drive a real pleasure. The superior audio also helps with video chat over the built-in 2-megapixel webcam, which does an acceptable job of capturing Samsung R519 Battery images.

The widescreen (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display looked good, too, with solid off-axis viewing from side to side (though less so from above or below). I only wish that Lenovo had  offered a Blu-ray  Samsung R430 Battery Disc option so that I could enjoy the higher video resolution that the notebook supports.

In fact, Lenovo offers relatively few configuration options for the Z370: You can save $30 by going with a Core i3 CPU, but then you’d have to forgo the cool, shiny, iridescent turquoise patterned case, which is only available HP Business Notebook 2710p Battery with the Core i5. (You can get either CPU with a charcoal brown case.)

A-Series APU computers get a similar update for their processor?

August 22nd, 2011

The AMD Fusion-powered computers are already turning heads with consumers wondering how the lower priced PCGA-BP7 devices with dedicated-level DirectX 11 graphics compare with the slightly more expensive, Intel Core-powered but usually with only integrated graphics computers. Now the C- and E-Series APUs offer even better graphics-related enhancements:

As a result, E-Series APUs now have better PCGA-BP71A memory bandwidth, run faster and especially during video playback; with HDMI 1.4, the machines can now display 3D photos and videos on 3D HDTVs and monitors; and portable devices like laptops could never have long enough battery life.

New laptops, netbooks, ultrabooks and all-in-one desktops that use the AMD Fusion PCGA-BP71AUC technology will start shipping today with these minor but welcomed improvements. Will current owners of A-Series APU computers get a similar update for their processor?

For some reason my laptop  battery went dead while the truck was parked. The first time it happened I just figured the battery had finally given up. It was the original battery and it had lasted 8 years. It also sees a huge temperature swing throughout the day in the summer and winter.

Plus I don’t drive this vehicle much. So I headed down to the parts store and picked up an Optima Yellow Top deep cycle starting PA3356U-3BAS battery, slapped it in the truck and went on my way noting that the alternator was charging just like it should be.

Then I parked the truck for a week only to come back and find the battery dead again. I had recently added a camper to this truck along with a couple other wiring modifications. So now I had to backtrack and check all my work. It looked fine. Then I tested the parasitic drain on the laptop batteries .

Pretty much every vehicle has parasitic battery drain. Newer vehicles with more electronic wingdings generally have more than older more spartan 4×4s. Up to 35 or even 50 milliamps is considered normal for most newer  PA3356U-2BRS vehicles.

First I made sure everything was turned off. Then I disconnected the battery terminal and wired in my 10-amp multi-meter between the positive  HP 441132-001 Battery terminal and the battery cable.

I was getting a reading of a little over 1-amp, which is kinda high. However, newer vehicles will spike up like this or higher right when the HP HSTNN-OB37 Battery is reconnected.

There are computers and other  HP HSTNN-OB38 Battery equipment that fires up for a short time when they get power connected. So I waited a few minutes and the meter eventually settled down to 10-milliamps. Perfect. So now that  everything checks out, what went wrong, twice? At this point I don’t really know.

The only thing that I can imagine is that I must have left my backup camera monitor turned on. It doesn’t draw much power but over the course of a week it could kill a PA3356U-2BAS battery. I’m still not sure if that was it though, so I’ll keep an eye on it.
