This appears to be one of those cases where applications badly lagged theory. Researchers are developing a new type of environmentally friendly fuel cell that runs on aluminum and renewable resources and generates about 20 times more electricity per pound than car batteries.

As is typical, the Berry key and call button are to the left of the trackball, while the Return key and End button are to the right. The gray plastic rear of the device is home to a 3.2-MP camera with flash. Finally, the Curve 8900 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and comes with its own headset.

Anyone who has used Slacker’s online radio service on the desktop will feel right at home using this mobile app. You can skip tracks, rate them as favorites, or ban them using intuitive controls beneath the main playback area (which has a Cover Flow-like look). Some of the companies making and selling computers are contemplating a way to give people a more accurate idea of how long the  HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7400 Battery  in their devices will last. A battery analyzer can also trouble-shoot the cause of short runtimes. There are several reasons for this common deficiency. In some cases, the battery may not be properly formatted when first put in service, or the original charger does not provide a full charge. In other cases, the portable device draws more current than specified. A common problem is high internal battery resistance. Many analyzers can simulate the load signature of a digital device and verify the runtime according to the load requirements.

According to Squiller, the company’s batteries will be used in automotive applications (HEVs) in the foreseeable future, but probably not sooner than 2011 models. “We expect that HEVs will become a standard of sorts in the next few years,” Squiller said as he referenced the expansion of the “auto stop” feature on vehicles with standard internal combustion engines. “These vehicles represent the perfect application of Nickel Zinc battery technology, because they need bursts of power for short durations and this is something that our batteries do very well.”

Lithium-based batteries are sensitive to aging. If stored fully charged and at elevated temperatures, the battery deteriorates to a 50 percent performance level in about one year. Similar performance degradation can be seen on NiMH batteries when used under these conditions. Although still considered new, the user will likely blame the equipment rather than the battery for its poor performance. The analyzer can isolate such problems.

However, for what the automotive industry refers to as High Efficiency Vehicles (HEVs) — what we call conventional hybrids — a new battery technology is on the horizon that will make these vehicles less costly, less weighty, and even more green (in terms of battery pack recyclablility).

With a completion time of only ten seconds, the Cadex Ohmtest? provides the fasted measurement.
